NE5D | SO HP 160M | Static crashes awful first night, but did work some EU the second night. |
NF4A | MSH | Although we were operating from one of the best 160 meter stations in the US (W8JI), we couldn't take advantage of it due to the severe storms in the SE USA during the contest. We left a lot of 6 point Q's on on the table because we couldn't hear much on 160 (or 80) due to the storms. Thanks to W8JI for letting us use his great station. |
NF7E | SO HP ALL | FUN CONTEST-GREAT TO WORK CQ EDITOR-W2VU& OTHERS |
NH7A | SO HP ALL | It has been a long time since I operated from Hawaii. Lovely place and people, but very tough radio conditions. |
NJ6N | MSH | NJ6N WPX SSB 2009 A few friends from the South Orange Amateur Radio Association (K6RBS, and KI6IRA) joined myself (K6NR) and my brother (NJ6N) for a multi-single effort in the WPX SSB contest. We were also fortunate to have Arnie (N6HC) and Bob (AA6PW) join us on Saturday. We operated from my QTH in the California high desert, near Victorville. I am not set up for multi-op, so we put together a second station in the living room using my Icom 756 Pro II and an AL-811 amplifier. Antenna switching was done the old fashioned way, by running outside to move coaxes around. The main station was an Elecraft K3 to an AL1200 amp, running just under maximum legal power. Antennas were a Cushcraft A3 tribander at 38', a 5 element 15 meter yagi at 45', a 4 element 20 meter yagi at 60', a 40 meter 4 square, a 80 meter vertical, and a 40/80 trapped dipole. The short story is that we had a lot of fun. We were not sure how much we use the mult station, but it was fairly active at several points during the contest. We had great USA runs on 20 and 15, and decent ones on 40 and 80 as well. 20 to Europe was excellent, especially Sunday, but the challenge was finding a spot to call CQ. 15 was only good to South America on Saturday, but opened up well to the US on Sunday. We had a few ops who don't get to do much contesting who got to experience the fun of a small pileup/run. We never made any contacts on 10 meters, although heard it open to South America on the mult station while we were running on the other bands. One frustrating issue was Writelog's assignment of serial numbers; for some reason it decided to move the 20 meter sequence to 15 meters and jump our serial number out of whack on that band. Couldn't figure out how to fix it, so we just kept copy with the higher numbers. 73 to all, thanks for the Q's! Dana, K6NR |
NJ9Z | SO LP ALL | Good condx, but not many openings to EU from my QTH. |
NK4I | SA HP ALL | Had house guests this weekend and my son is still recovering from the accident. Was only able to S&P when I had a couple of minutes to sneak away from the crowd. |
NM1JY | MSH | Fun to put club call on the air. QSL via AA1CA |
NM6G | SA HP ALL | I last worked this contest with K6JAT from V26DX in 2004. This was just as much fun at and as NM6G and a LOT less work, hassle, and $$$ (not counting building and the cost of the station!). |
NN7SS | SO QRP ALL | Now I remember why I haven't done this contest for three years - the SSB QRM really hurts the ears! With no sunspots, everyone is packed on 20m, and the QRM is tremendous. Also, its SSB, and contacts that would be easy on CW or RTTY are no-go on SSB. I didn't stay up either night for the low bands, as I've learned that QRP, SSB and low bands don't work. Saturday morning 20m had only weak Europeans here, and few could be worked over the East Coast. Sunday morning was better for Europeans. 15m had little on Saturday, but an opening Sunday afternoon put 30 quick QSOs in the log. North American was 50 percent of QSOs, followed by South America at 25 percent. Over 45 DXCC countries were worked, including the 6W in Senegal on 15 meters, at 5 watts, thats over 1,000 miles/watt! Complaints are people who never give their call, just "QRZ?" and the callers who don't standby when the DX asks for specific letters. Based on last years scores, I would be 4th Place US QRP, but I didn't spend enough hours to get the score building up more. See you on CW and RTTY, NN7SS (op K6UFO) |
NP3CW | SO LP ALL | Propagation was better on 15 mtrs and 20 mtrs band. Only one contact in 80 Meters and few in 40 meters band. Only few South America stations heard in 10 metrs. heard only few stations from Europe this time mostly in 20 and 15 metrs. |
NQ6L | SO LP ALL | My first WPX Contest |
NR4C | SO LP ALL | Had a lot of fun with the limited time I had to devote to this contest. See you next year! |

NV6C | MSH | What a fun contest! We had powerline noise for part of Saturday but it cleared up in time to make a great contest weekend. |
NY0T | SO LP 40M | All I tried is to work prefixes! |
NZ5A | SO LP 20M | Joined in the SSB fray again after several years absence. Enjoyed it again as much as always. A wonderful contest for my call. |
OE2S | SA HP 20M | Because of illness and work at the WPX SSB weekend we could not do a M/S effort. Great pleasure doing SO-assisted on 20m , thanks to the station owners! Some good runs and nice conditions kept me happy in the chair, thanks for all the calls! 73 Carl OE9MON |
OE2VEL | SA HP ALL | just did put a 40m-wire beam between the trees, worked great |
OG6N | SA HP ALL | Part time operation. A lot of fun despite the fact that the DX-conditions were marginal at best. |
OH5TS | SO LP 20M | I really was going to give points to others but somehow it turned me on and I connected my voice machine to the rig on Sunday morning and then it got serious. I didn't have much pile-up with low power but S&P worked just fine. My last WPX was sometime in the 70's. But I enjoyed this one and will try to have time for the CW, too. Thanks to all good ears and 73 de Kari OH5TS |

P29NB | MSH | Had a great time. Lookin' forward to better band conditions. It was Norm's last hurrah from PNG - we're really gonna miss P29NB next time. |
P33W | MSH | Field Day location. All antennas for the contest were built from Zero point. During the contest and after there were some voices about 2 CQs from P33W at the same time. I would like to declare that 2 signals on the same band facility is blocked by switching system at the station. At the same time 2 (two) hopping CQs or 1 CQ and 2nd S&P is possible due to specific configuration of the radio and special controller box made for WRTC-2006 in Brasil. Not always but for some time you will find RUN (TRANSMITTER) on 2 different frequencies. This is 1 (one) RUN radio with second VFO controled by another RX radio, so One RUN (TRANSMITTER) radio was transmitting on 2 frequencies by 2 operators by hopping back and force. One more important thing - all QSO numbers were transmitted in sequence! If you have questions feel free to ask. 73s, Harry RA3AUU |
P40A | SO LP ALL | Fun contest, even with poor conditions. |
