K0DSL | SO LP ALL | Not too bad for the antenna that doesn't work (Comet CHA-250B) mounted to the fire escape behind my apartment building and 100 watts. Radio is an iCOM IC-7300 |
K0IL | SO LP ALL | If allowed, resubmission due to a key-bounce (99) keyboard error |
K0JJM | SO LP ALL | thanks for Big Guns that take time to ensure they get the correct exchange from Little Guns! |

K0RC | SO LP ALL | This was a very part-time effort hampered by a lot of rain and snow static during the weekend. My experience was good band conditions (if I could hear them) with the Mults & Qs full of stations to work in all directions |
K0VIK | SO LP ALL | First license 04-2022 I also would like to use the CLASSIC overlay if possible? Not sure if two overlays are allowed. Thanks! |
K1DC | SO HP ALL | First license 05-2022 First licensed 10-May-2022 What a roller-coaster weekend! I had originally planned to join the NE1C team at K1TTT for my first in-person M/M operation (Thanks, Nick!). However, I realized this was the last CQ event where I would qualify as a 'rookie' so I opted to operate SOHP/Rookie from Tony's K1KP station. My goal was to get a plaque! A look at last year's winner indicated a rather modest goal of ~900Qs should get it done. Should be easy, right? The Thursday leading to the event was a stressful one that induced a fitful night's sleep into Friday. As the start time of 00z rolled around I was already tired my planned nap had not materialized. I started out on the 40m 'mosh pit' and faced a solid wall of sound. There was not a run slot to be found so S&P it was. It was a slog I managed only 34Qs in the first hour and 43 in the second. By the of the 3rd hour I was knackered and had only 141Qs in the log. Ugh. I slept dreaming of an open 10m band. I slept through the alarm on Sat. AM and didn't get on the air till 10z. My dream was shattered as 10m had nothing but crickets - the result of an X class solar flare. Joy. There was some joy on 15m but I just never felt loud. Several runs were attempted to no great effect, a small handful of Qs. By 00z on Sunday I was only at 579Qs heading into the slow day on Sunday. Not looking good for my goal. After some family time, and a decent sleep, I was back at it 10z on Sunday - what a difference a night makes! 10m was hopping and I was off to the races. Despite the open bands I was not able to get a decent run going despite several tries. I think the combination of no self-spotting and a common K1 prefix kept the callers disinterested. I did manage a few good spurts of 180/hr rates but my best hour was only 81. I need to think on this more to see where I went wrong. Despite what others have reported, I did not hear a single JA station all weekend. I did manage a few interesting (to me at least) Qs: A42K, 8R1TM, OY1R, 7Q5BM, V55Y, VP6RD, FR8TZ, 5Z4A, and A41NN. Several of these are new band slots for me on SSB. As Sunday wore on, and I flew past my goal I was energized that I may still pull this thing off! I finished the event with 1203Qs and 693 mults with a total score just past 2.24M. I certainly didn?t set the SOHP class on fire, I was very far back on the online scoreboard, but I'm hoping this is good enough for the Rookie overlay win. I had great fun so I suppose I've already won. -) Many thanks to all the ops for the Qs, to Ken/WO1N for the call history file so I could say hi to YCCC members and to Tony/K1KP for the use of his station! Now, If I could just get the fire-hose of random callsigns out of my head |

Ran across 'Tina' at N3QE's station and enjoyed putting that qso in the log...really Slick Tim! Was glad to add to my DXCC totals, thanks for the Q's. 73! Ed K5OF |

K6QLF | SO LP 10M | After an ad-HOC WPX Ssb demonstration for the Amateur Radio Club of Alameda (ARCA) at the Oakland Yacht Club (in Alameda), the club president (WQ6X) configured a new N1MM+ log for WPX running the ARCA Club callsign K6QLF. The main impetus was to give hearable operators a 2nd call to work (besides WA6OYC). Because 10-meters seemed to be 'least affected' by sailboat RFI, the decision was made to run 10-meters only. I ran the ICOM 7300 running off of a marine battery into a horizontal J-Pole antenna atop the Yacht Club's 3-Story high building. Calling CQ only elicited 1-QSO, but several commented on the 'coolness' of the K6QLF callsign. Bottomline, the group got an exposure to Radiosport Pandemonium (WPX-Style) and the onsite J-Pole was given a thorough 10-meter performance test. K8DP | MSL | This was the first time that three generations of our family—John K8YSE, myself Doug K8DP, and Grace K8LG—came together as a team to compete in a contest. Grace operated the station remotely from her college dorm room as she is currently immersed in her spring term at university and couldn't be with us in person. The band conditions did not disappoint! All in all, we are pleased with our effort, and we had a great time participating together as a family! |
