K9WWTSO HP ALLWorst band conditions for this contest in 10 years. It was WORK!
K9ZOSO HP 20MOperated from the WB9Z QTH
KA3DRR/6SO LP ALLFriday night blazed. Saturday storm flattened conditions. Sunday was ham radio fun. Thanks for a great event!
KC0MOSO HP ALLCondx not good for DX so points, mults, and score way down
KC0YNESO QRP 40MOperated from Holiday Inn, Bettendorf, Iowa with indoor antenna and 4 watt qrp transceiver.
KC6XSO HP ALLTerrible condx! K index was 3 to 5 entire contest, which meant no polar paths. I worked only a handful of European stations, no Middle East, no Africa other than Morocco. 10m had a strange opening working East Coast and VE but beaming SA.
KD4D/3M2Thanks again to John Evans for letting us use the farm and for all of hard work getting the station ready. We set up four operating positions this time and had lots of fun chasing multipliers! As many others have said, conditions weren't great. Saturday morning I kept waiting for 20 to open to Europe. It opened but the rates went up for about 30 minutes and went back down before 12:00Z. Nice to see activity on 15 and 10. We had a great team this time, with two new members: Peter, W2CDO, and Bob, ND3D. They both seemed to have a great time. See you in the next one!
KE0GSO QRP ALLElecraft K-3 at 5 watts, two switchable 74' dipoles up 50' fed with balanced lines and Matchboxes.
KF0IQSA LP 20MVERY POOR PROPAGATION CONDITIONS FOR ME.
KG4WSA HP ALLI am in the TB-WIRES category, but I have only Wires, no Tribander. Great contest, one of my favorites. My equipment is Yaesu Mark V, Amp is Yaesu Quadra, Tx ant is Carolina windom 10-160, Rx beverage.
KJ4BIWMSHPoor conditions but great fun! WPX contest is tops.
KJ4UZXSO QRP ALLJust had to make some contest QSO's with Elecraft KX1 and in door random wire.
KK5ISO LP ALLConditions to Eu were poor from this Oklahoma QTH.
KL2RSA LP 20MGood thing I didn't cancel any holiday activities to play in this year's WPX. Conditions were generally abysmal in Alaska with almost momentary openings on 20 to EU. NA/SA prop was rough going most of the time, too. Maybe next year I'll get more serious and pray for some better conditions.
KL7/WA4DOXSO QRP 20MRig was a Wilderness Sierra QRP running 1.5 Watts. Antenna was a twisted-pair dipole 5 feet above the rocky ground. QTH was the cab of a Ford F350 pickup truck. Elevation at the QTH was 1800 feet above sea level, and located on the western coast of Alaska at Cape Romanzof.
KM3T/1MMGenerally terrible conditions but CW contests are always fun! First use of Win-Test @KC1XX - recently retired our old DOS computers. WPX CW was a good warmup for CQWW DX - thanks for all the Q's!
KN4QDSO LP ALLStorms were the name of the game here, both atmospheric and geomagnetic. Thunderstorms came through on all 3 days of the contest and forced me to disconnect the antennas. On Saturday, I even suffered a power outage due to severe weather. The geomagnetic storm that occurred on Saturday really made conditions difficult. The only EU I heard on Saturday were the really big guns. Thankfully propagation was good North-South so I was able to work a number of stations in South America which helped a bit. Conditions were very much improved by Sunday evening as the contest was winding down. Hopefully conditions will improve for next year. This was my best effort by far and WPX remains my favorite contest.
KN4YSO LP 10MI decided to try a one band operation and decided to go with 10-meters, a band for Seniors, early to bed, late to rise, and afternoon naps. The QSOs started slow then opened to the South. Did not get an opening to the Northeast. Just enough activity to keep an old man from napping.
KP2BSA LP ALLRIG: FT-1000 M V; ANTENNA: DIPOLE G5RV AND TRI-BAND ANTENNA A3S
KQ2M/1SO HP ALLFun to operate with two different callsigns (KQ2M and K1LZ) in two different states (CT and MA) in the same contest. Tnx for the Q's! 73 Bob KQ2M
KR0SSSO LP 20MThanks to Robin W0FEN for loaning the callsign!
KR7O/6SO HP ALLQuick test of new K3 lockout box and K3 firmware, in prep. for WRTC-2010.
KS0MSO LP ALLBy far the worst band conditions I have ever had during a contest. But, I had some fun.
KS7TSO HP ALLI'm glad the U.S.A. QSOs count for points in this one - because when the A index went up - the DX prop went down here but still 10 meters had surprise openings both days for short skip and even a few stations on the east coast were worked. Not wide open - but better than zilch!
KS9KSO LP ALLMy WRTC strategy is to get Murphy so busy back home in Indiana that he will not look for me in Russia. During the check-out of my station the day before the contest, I find that the TopTen 15 meter relay box 80' up the tower won't select ANY of the 15 meter antennas. No problem, I think. I'll just go 40 meter single band. Then, I discovered my prop-pitch rotor wouldn't turn. I'd had problems with it just before the ARRL CW contest but it was too cold then to trouble- shoot so I left it pointed toward Europe at that time. Now it is warm, but I still couldn't find any reason it wouldn't run. So, my big 20 & 40 meter activity would need to come from Europe. Usually a pretty good plan.... But, not so hot for a single band effort. Swapped out the 15 meter relay box Friday morning with my Ameritron relay box I use for beverages. Had to remove all of the 75 ohm terminations inside the Ameritron relay box and replace them with shorts to ground to get the stack switching to work. The TopTen relay box also uses different logic sensing than Ameritron (active low instead of active high), so can't use my normal switching box. Clip leads it is. All band, low power, here I come. I can't get the parallel port smartcard for my Windows 7 laptop to switch the TopTen DX Doubler so reconnect the old DOS computer to run TRLog for SO2R. The contest starts ok, I think. I work CT1BOH and CR6K on 15 at the beginning so I'm thinking propagation is picking up. I even work three western Europeans on 80m with my WRTC-style inverted vee at 35 feet. Saturday morning reality sets in. I had forgotten to replace the 10 & 15 meter stubs at my six pack after removing them for Field Day last year. The Dunestars had been removed for testing with my WRTC triplexer, so there is about a 10dB increase in the noise floor on receiving in the second receiver on the 10/15 combination (the 10/15 meter antennas are duobanders). Fortunately, the propagation turns out to be pretty poor so that I don't feel too bad about not using 10 & 15 at the same time. The overall DXing was the worst yet in a WPX contest - only 278 Europeans worked on all bands. Still, a bad weekend contesting beats a great day on the assembly line.
KU7YSO QRP 40MVery high noise level, S7 to S9+. Thanks to all for working so hard to hear me!
KV8QSO LP ALLSorry, Guys. I picked up some sunspots at a 'BLue Light Special' but left them in the trunk of the car when I got home. Maybe next year. Lots of fun meeting old friends once again. My score was down a bit from last year. More Q's this year but less points and fewer mults. Conditions here were decent but nothing to write home about. Nothing on ten and no Europe on 15. See you all once again next year. Thanks for all of the Q's.
KW2G/1SO LP ALLAn all wires effort! Primary antenna was new 88 ft doublet up @ 55 ft installed less than 2 weeks before contest. Separate inverted L used for handful of 160m contacts. Doublet played very well considering the very challenging propagation condx. GREAT to make 50+ QSOs on 10m. Best DX...ST2AR calling ME on 40m! Fun to provide a rare mult as KW2G...Thanks to all for the Q's!
KX7LSO LP 40MWanted to try single band, it was either 15 or 40, and given propagation conditions, 40 won out. Still, I didn't hear any Europeans, but did manage to work the other continents. I'm getting too old to get up in the wee hours 2 nights in a row, but was able to work 5 new band countries on the first night. Bad QRN the 2nd night. Thanks for the fun.
L33MSO HP ALLSee you next year!!
LA2ABMSHBand conditions very poor on high bands Much better on low bands Still enjoyed contest as always Hope for more sunspots next year!
LA4EJSO LP 40MBand conditions not too good.
LA8OMSO HP ALLThe goal of beating last year's effort failed slightly in terms of number of QSOs, however lacking DX conds gave far fewer QSO points. Amp failure after 6 hours and "half" power (500W) thereafter, also contributed. As usual flawless logging with EI5DI's SD.
LN5OSA HP ALLBadest Thrill was the high AURORA, but got at least a few West-coast USA on the night over the pole :) Gladly to see 10 & 15m is back, even it was only for EXTREMLY short skip... Murphy made fedback into the the box for 80 m phased array with high power, and the remote board I have in the shack for remote use got crazy when I TX'ed on 15m, then the amp which is wires to this turned off... so 15m was mostly with low power...
LU8QTSO LP 15M....THE BEST !
